Easy Puppy Training Tips

Teach Your Puppy To Sit Without It Being Stressful

Your puppy's first year is the most important time in its life. It is imperative that the puppy is trained by you in such a way that it strengthens its bond with you as its master, while learning proper behavior. You need to be able to do this without causing the puppy undue stress. If you do this successfully, the rest will be easy.

Stress Free Sitting Training

Because you need your puppy's attention, make sure there are no distractions. Have a small treat handy which you can allow the pup to smell initially. Now, slowly move the treat up until it is over the puppy's brow and say 'sit' as you do this. His rear end will naturally tuck down to the floor. When he does, give the puppy the treat and praise him immediately. The connection between sitting and the treat will all come together quickly in the puppy's mind after a few days of repetition.

Stress Free Training for Puppy to Lie Down

Get down low in front of the pup for this technique. Again, it is imperative to have the puppy's attention focused on you. Then, lower your hand to the floor with a treat in your hand while saying 'lie down'. The puppy's nose does all the work here, since the puppy will be encouraged to follow its nose. Again, when he does, give the puppy the treat and praise him immediately.

In training a puppy to take positional commands, it is sometimes helpful to use your other hand (the one not holding the treat) to gently push on the puppy's hips to encourage the sitting or lying position. It also helps to get down low yourself. Dogs, being social creatures, naturally want to make eye contact and imitate your position - simply put, lying down yourself will encourage the puppy to lie down as well.

Never use physical discipline or scolding to punish the dog for not following orders. If you do, they will associate training with being unhappy and you will lose their trust.By the way, I've placed a big blue order button below in case you wanted to learn all the good things to train you puppy or dog.
